I see my life
In physical terms
I fail to look at length
To see the things that are ruling
The spiritual side of me

Behind the veil
Where we cannot see
And yet long to be
All the things that matter
Are ruling over me

I want to know my value
The world declines to give
An estimate of my worth
And yet Jesus came and died for me
The spiritual side of me is valuable
Now I want to see

I ask for Christ’s forgiveness
He comes into my life giving me life
Now I see God’s estimate of me
The Lord of all sees all of me
And He, the Lord loves me

Christ opens up God’s riches
Seven thousand promises to me
And reminds that the Lord is living with me
Setting me free from foolishness and fear
Guiding me to live a life of value and worth

I see the needs before me
The Lord has invited me in
Now I will serve Him
Loving Him
And staying close to Him

Fighting Moses
Holding the land
Seeking to destroy
God’s little band

Later its location
Made it David’s fort
A place to put people
To dangerous to court

Always a high place
In view of the green
One step to desert
And virtually unseen

They built a holy altar
To mimic Jerusalem
Maybe Solomon worshipped
Out of sight of his God

Ever a stronghold
That sowed seeds of doubt
This little fortress
Was evil’s way out

Out to the people
Making irrelevant the claims
That Israel came making
In the Lord’s precious name

No place for wisdom
No obedience here
Arad was failure
That stoned Israel’s ear

I will obey
I will do it God’s way
That is all Jesus asks us
For success His way

Another day in Rome
I’ve walked everywhere
My feet are killing me

In my walk
Was history
St. Peter’s to the Colosseum

A grand street to Tiber
Ending at Castel St. Angelo
People all around

Up the Tiber
In the sun
Across to Navona and lunch

What a meal
Amidst the crowd
Statutes looking on

Lolling thru the alleys
Stopping at Tasso d’Ore
Reaching the Corso of Rome

Umilta was found
We walked around
Three coins in Trevi’s Fountain

People everywhere
The traffic didn’t care
As we walked the Imperial Road

By the Colosseum
Up to San Clemente
Seven hours passed and we are home

Awaiting friends
Soon to come
To see the glories of Rome

Matched against the hand of God
His world unfurled
Rome played a significant part

Romans ruled the world that day
That Christ saved me
By His sacrifice on Calvary

Poets and kings
Failed to note
That history changed that day

Now my friends will come and see
The ancient and the new
And be encouraged to see God’s grace

All the time He’s given
Wealth and pomp abound
The storied are not to be found

Across the dirty Tiber
Christians crouched in fear
God’s glory reigned

Rome marched
Jesus loved
People set free

My friends and I
Will see the Son
In Rome’s history

No one like Jesus
He is all I need
A blessed loving Savior
He has set me free

Knowing all my evil
Still He died for me
To make me God’s son
So I could live for Him

My hesitation blossoms
When faced with sin
Breaking His heart
To see me give in

But then He arrives
Holds my hand
Often crying with me
Helping me take a stand

Hearing all my promises
Made when I have failed
Then when I break them
He helps me grow again

Christ is worth my focus
He knows what I need
Gladly giving
To a cad like me

A chance
For growth and use
An opportunity
I can reach and hold

Time adversely
Measures out growth
Trying to lull me
To hopeless rote

God rules time
Growth comes from Him
Jesus uses me
And gives me His win

Bold things for Jesus
Help me grow
Live a life of purpose
And God will give growth

It’s much like a circle
All things come around
Service births service
Obedience gets growth

Gideon trembled at the orders
Moses ran away
Abraham lied
I’m in good company

Each gave God the glory
Obedience performed
Willing to die in service
Their chance was formed

God is alive
Working in my life
Giving me direction
Guiding me through strife

Giving me His wisdom
To use along the way
So that when needed
I know His way

Careful how I use it
Wisdom from God
It’s not to elevate me
It is a gift for good

People count with Jesus
He uses me to serve
Remember God gives wisdom
So that I live as I should

Wisdom is a blessing
For me and all I touch
Jesus uses me
To care for the weak and hurt

Special little places
Seen through active eyes
Off the beaten path
Coming alive as we pass

A garden of roses
Cobbled stones
A treasure through a key hole
St. Peter’s gorgeous dome

Rome is full
Of special blessings
If we look
And feel the touch of time

So many things
We walk by
Often holding gold
Stop and let its story unfold

Hurrying along
No special things
Walking away
Disappointed by the day

Then thru a friends eye
A story is told
That stone has a history
Now it is known

As I walk back alone
I treasure things known
I alone have seen
This very special place

Miracles march
Thru our lives
Unbidden and silent
Gifts of care from Christ

Yet guiding our steps
Touching our hearts
Lifting spirits quietly

And yet we don’t believe
They happen to us
We discuss
What others get

We don’t see
The gifts we get
We only see God’s blessings
Touching other’s lives
resting from a lot of walking

Perspective is the key
Knowing we are loved
Assured of His presence
Feeling our worth

Miracles are all around
Those in us abound
Our Father is active
Working in our lives

Is anything too hard for God?
Is my life a test to prove?
That God can use a weakling

I whine and moan
My selfish needs
In spite of the pain I see

God has a plan to use me
If I will let Him make me
Useable for His work

My view is always clouded
I cannot see ahead
Fear and ignorance sidetrack me

My Father knows the future
He knows what I can do
And His plan is suited for me

The Father loves me
Christ is in me
The Holy Spirit guiding me

Jesus knows my heart
If I will let go
Christ will equip me

Obedience is required
Questions aren’t the key
Willingness empowers me

Nothing is too hard for God
He can prove it in my life
If I will live like Christ
