31 Days with Jesus: Walk With Me

1. Walk With Me

Biblical Citation: Matthew 4:19

Relevant Scripture

“And He said to them, ‘Follow Me, and I will make you fishers of men.'”

Christ-centered exposition

Jesus did not begin His ministry by handing people a list of principles. He invited them into His presence. His first call was not, “Improve yourself,” but, “Follow Me.” Christianity begins with Christ Himself. Everything else grows out of walking with Him.

When Jesus says, “Follow Me,” He is also saying, “Walk with Me.” He knows the path because He is the Way. He provides the strength because He is our life. Every step of discipleship begins with His invitation and continues by His grace.

Additional explanatory comments

• Jesus calls us to Himself before He calls us to service.

• Every act of obedience begins with staying close to Christ.

What Does This Mean?

I do not have to figure out life by myself.

Jesus is inviting me to live every day in His company.

How Do I Put This Into My Daily Walk?

• Begin today by consciously welcoming Jesus into every decision.

• Ask throughout the day, “Lord Jesus, help me walk with You.”

• Measure success by closeness to Christ rather than accomplishments.

• End the day thanking Him for walking beside you.

Prayer

Lord Jesus,

Thank You for inviting me to follow You. Keep me from trying to live the Christian life in my own strength. Teach me to stay close to You today. Let every step remind me that You are leading, strengthening, and sustaining me. I gladly accept Your invitation to walk with You.

Amen.

Who Is Jesus Today?

Jesus is my Companion.

2. Jesus Is My Life

Biblical Citation: Colossians 3:4

Relevant Scripture

“When Christ, who is our life, is revealed, then you also will be revealed with Him in glory.”

Christ-centered exposition

Jesus did not come merely to improve our lives. He came to become our life. Everything God asks of us flows from what Christ gives to us. We do not produce the Christian life independently; we receive His life daily.

Walking with Jesus means depending upon Him every moment. His presence supplies the wisdom, strength, courage, and love we need for each day.

Additional explanatory comments

• The Christian life is received before it is practiced.

My greatest need is more dependence upon Jesus.

• Refuse to trust your own strength.

• Remember that His life is sufficient for today.

Jesus is my Life.

3. Remain Close to Me

Biblical Citation: John 15:5

Relevant Scripture

“I am the vine, you are the branches; he who abides in Me and I in him, he bears much fruit, for apart from Me you can do nothing.”

Christ-centered exposition

Fruit is never produced by struggling. Fruit comes from remaining connected to the vine. Jesus does not ask us to manufacture spiritual life. He calls us to abide in Him.

The secret of a fruitful Christian life is not striving harder but staying nearer. As we remain in Christ, His life naturally produces what we could never accomplish ourselves.

Additional explanatory comments

The Christian life begins with Christ’s invitation, “Follow Me,” and ends with eternal fellowship in His presence. Every lesson learned, every burden carried, every act of obedience, and every step of faith leads to this glorious promise: forever with Jesus.

He has always desired to dwell with His people. From the garden of Eden, through the wilderness tabernacle, through the coming of Emmanuel, and now through the indwelling Holy Spirit, God has been bringing His people toward this final day. Then faith will become sight, hope will become joy, and every redeemed child of God will live forever in the presence of the Lord Jesus Christ.
